The short version: read anything, learn anything, reuse the writing and the code within the licenses below, and don't expect any guarantees. Using this site means you're OK with what follows.

Who runs this

BUT. Honestly is a personal site written and maintained by Nicola Mustone (“Nico”). The opinions here are mine, not those of my employer or anyone else.

Using the site

Everything is free to read — no account, no paywall. The newsletter is the one optional sign-up, and you can unsubscribe anytime. Please don't use the site in ways that break it or others' use of it — automated scraping that hammers the server, attempts to probe or compromise it, or anything unlawful. It's a small site run by one person; treat it kindly.

Licensing & reuse

Different parts of the site carry different licenses, so you always know what you're allowed to do:

• Articles, essays, and images that I own are licensed under Creative Commons Attribution–NonCommercial–ShareAlike 4.0. You may share and adapt them for non-commercial purposes, with credit and a link back, and share any derivative under the same license.
• Code snippets and downloadable code are released under the GNU General Public License v2 or later. Use them in your own projects on those terms.
• The site's own source code is available under the MIT license.

Trademarks, logos, and product names mentioned here belong to their respective owners and are used for reference only.

Code & tutorials — use at your own risk

The tutorials, snippets, and tools here are provided as-is, for learning. Always test on a staging site and keep backups before running anything against a live site or store. I can't be responsible for data loss, downtime, or other consequences from using the code.
